Stitch Fix Review #18: August 2016 II

August 2016 Stitch Fix Review |www.pearlsandsportsbras.com|

Does anyone feel fall on the horizon? I definitely do and after finishing with a gorgeous summer fix earlier this month I’m ready to get my closet ready for the season! It’s been such as super hot summer (totally not complaining here) that options for dressing have been pretty limited to shorts and tees for weeks now. All this downtime has me dreaming about thick chunky sweaters and boots. I was definitely feeling that way when I asked Rachel, my stylist, to send me some transition-to-fall pieces in this fix, and she delivered! I also noted that I’m loving burgundy and plum for this season and asked that she kept an eye out for things in those colors.

What is Stitch Fix:

Stitch Fix is a monthly (or semi-regularly, it’s up to you) personal stylist service. The most popular option is a monthly home delivery of 5 items, clothing and accessories, to your door, picked by your stylist. The monthly stylist fee is $20 (yep, that’s it!) and if you choose to keep any of the items, that $20 goes toward your purchase. Once your Fix arrives, you get 3 business days to decide which items to keep, and which, if any, you want to send back. If you need to send items back, they provide you with a prepaid package that can be placed in your mailbox so you literally have to do nothing. To purchase the clothing/accessories you want to keep, you log into your online account, and select the ones you’re keeping and checkout. That’s it!

If you are someone who hates shopping, but doesn’t mind someone shopping for you, this is perfect. If you are someone who needs to be shopped for – then you need this service. If you’re intrigued and you want to step out of your comfort zone and let someone else give you suggestions based on information you’ve given them about what you like, this is what this service is all about!

How to sign up:

Your Stitch Fix stylists will need to get to know you, so you begin by creating an account and taking a personal style quiz and filling out your style profile. This is kind of fun and gives you quite a bit of say in what shows up at your door each month. **You will select your desired price ranges during this part as well. All of your answers and preferences can be changed at any time.

You should also start a Pinterest Stitch Fix board for your stylists to see what your personal style is all about. Be specific and detailed with what you post on there, that will help guide them. There’s a spot in your style profile to paste the link to your Pinterest board.

You can leave the stylists additional messages if you are looking for something specific to arrive in your box – for example, if you have a wedding to go to, or will be going on vacation, job interviews, etc. Your stylists will send you options for these events. You can request to NOT receive specific items in your boxes (I just requested to no longer receive jewelry). I asked not to receive pleather or real fur…

You’ll select when you’d like your box delivered each month (or how often), and it’ll arrive on your doorstep :) You’ll get an email a week or two before, asking if you have any last minute requests for your stylist, and another email when your box has shipped. Once it arrives, you’ll have 3 business days to decide on which items you’ll keep or send back.

Rory Beca Alecia Off Shoulder Dress: Kept

Obviously, this one is a winner. The color, style, fit, everything was perfect. The material is so light and soft it felt like a dream on and is very flattering. I love that it has long sleeves because I plan to wear this to a fall wedding. The price normally would have been too high for me to spend on something I won’t wear often but because I have such lovely followers and Stitch Fix did a referral promotion in July I had some credit saved up that made this more reasonably priced.

Pixley Frederique Crochet Detail Top: Returned
DV8 Genna Lace Up Wedge Bootie: Returned

Top: Totally loved the pattern and crochet detail on this top, it was adorable and exactly what I’ve been pinning. I am also ok with a little bell sleeve but I couldn’t get over these. The excess material on the sleeves was just impractical and unfortunately made this a no for me.

Shoes: I was surprised Rachel sent these because I hadn’t pinned anything like them but I was definitely open to giving them a try. The material is faux-suede and I thought they were very comfortable, no digging into my ankles. They are a little bit higher than what I usually choose for a fall boot and I didn’t absolutely love how they looked on me so I opted to invest in the dress instead.

Pixley Martina Slub Knit Open Cardigan: Returned

The color of this cardigan is definitely going to be huge this fall but I honestly had trouble coming up with ways to style this thing. The cardigan was comfortable but not all that flattering. I may have missed the mark on this one but that just means it wasn’t meant to be.

Liverpool Adele Skinny Jean: Returned

I went back and forth on whether or not to keep these pants for days! I love the color and they are comfortable and flattering. On me there were too big though – loose in the waist, knees, and too long. I wanted them so badly that I considered keeping them anyway and crossing my fingers they’d shrink in the wash but they are a bit pricey so I couldn’t take the risk.

Another great fix! What did you think? I’m excited to see what else Stitch Fix has to offer for this fall and I eagerly await my September fix. What have you guys received, I’d love to see!

  1. Oh my word… Those skinny jeans! So sad that you didn’t keep them. I don’t think I would have the same problem with the excess fabric. I completely understand why you didn’t keep them but I am IN LOVE!!!

  2. Love all pieces!! I have only been using Stich Fix for a short time (I think going on #5). Unfortunately, I have been very disappointed with the selections I have been receiving. Any suggestions on how to make a better fix? Do you work with one stylist only? Based on what they just sent you, I would have kept all of that (contingent on fit) Who is it? I want them! lol

    1. Carla – don’t give up! Once I found a stylist that I felt “got me” I started requesting her every time in the comments section when checking out. Her name is Rachel. Also try making your requests very specific. Same goes with Pinterest – give her/him details so your stylist knows exactly what you like about certain things you pin.

  3. I’m a little confused on your article above your review of your august items from stitch fix. You praise and praise the service, everything looks fantastic on you but you keep only one item? I am on my upcoming 6th fix and the last one I kept all 5 items. I’m surprised with detailed articles and pinning that you do, that you aren’t keeping all of your items? However, if I were your stylist and read this post I would be upset too! Seriously chick, where are your manners? You have every Joe Schmo coming through your blog and clicking on your link and signing up while you are banking credit after credit and you keep one piece? I just can’t rap my head around this one! #firstworldproblems #tryadiffrrentservice

Better luck in the future… I hope.

    1. With respect Abbey, we are each entitled to use this service differently. I am happy to hear you have received great fixes and are keeping all of your pieces, that’s awesome! At baseline, I have a well-established wardrobe and use Stitch Fix to find unique or great fitting items, not to bulk up my wardrobe. That isn’t to say I wouldn’t love a 5/5 fix, that just hasn’t happened for me, yet. My optimism about this service and my stylist is honest, as she has sent some amazing pieces that I wear daily and I will continue to subscribe.
