Trunk Club for Women: Spring 2016 II

Trunk Club for Women: Spring 2016 Review

This trunk was a follow-up from my first spring trunk, from which I kept nothing. Once I sent everything back and submitted all my feedback my stylist contacted me to put together another shipment that, hopefully, was more reflective of my own style. We’ll talk about the trunk in just a moment, first let me tell you a little about Trunk Club, if you aren’t already familiar with this service:

Trunk Club:

1. Sign up and take a very brief style survey. You’ll fill out a personal profile and provide your stylist with links to your Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, etc.

2. Your stylist will handpick a selection of items for you to review online. After you provide your feedback, and your trunk is finalized, it’s shipped directly to your house.

3. You have 5 days to try on and decide on which items to keep. They provide you with shipping labels and tape strips so when you’re ready to ship the rest back, you schedule a pickup with UPS.

4. Fees: A $25 home try-on fee is charged to your account per trunk and this cash is credited towards any purchase you make. .

What to Expect:

Your stylist is YOURS. Like, forever. She (or he) will want to get to know you. My stylist sent me an email with very specific style questions. Additionally, your stylist will expect communication via a telephone call, which I thought was required but others have said they didn’t have to participate in this part of this service (I could have done without). On the other hand, if that’s your thing, you can call your stylist whenever you want.

The clothing inventory is pulled from NORDSTROM, so there’s a vast selection at a wide range of price points. Be sure to point out to your stylist where you’d like to stay, price-wise or you will receive a $300 cashmere sweater.

You will be sent 10-15 pieces ranging from tops, bottoms, shoes, scarves, and accessories. Really, ask for anything. During your preview you can remove items from your trunk and they won’t be sent. Your stylist may add new items for you before sending so some of what you receive is a surprise.

Ask for a trunk whenever you want. This is more of a concierge service than a scheduled delivery. If requesting a trunk for a specific event allow enough time for communication and for your stylist to pull pieces and ship.

Trunk Club for Women: Spring 2016 II

This shipment was a bit smaller than what I’ve received before and what I see most others receiving. My stylist tends to keep the trunks stocked with less than 10 items, I’m sure she has an MO. I do notice from other reviewers that most trunks have somewhere between 14-20 items. It did include a few things I was DYING to try so I was actually pretty excited for it to arrive! First, let me show you the stuff I didn’t photograph for you:

IMG_5574I know what you are thinking, and no, I haven’t found a pair of white skinnys yet. This pair is promising but they were way too big. My stylist is going to send me a smaller pair. A cool thing you can do with the Trunk Club app (that I didn’t realize until this shipment) is send photos through the messenger. So, I sent her a pic to show her just how big and she can determine which size I’ll need and send me the right size to try. Really cool right?

IMG_5575This dress was cool, I liked it for work. It was way too big, it quite literally looked like a sac on my 5’3″ frame. It was also missing a button.

IMG_5576My stylist sent this exact top in a much prettier color and pattern in my first trunk, so this green just paled in comparison. But in general, the green didn’t do much for me.

IMG_5577This was a good tee and at a great price too. If there’s one thing I have covered in my wardrobe, it’s basics. I did tell my stylist that I don’t need ANY basics but she always includes some in my trunks, so I think it’s probably time to reiterate that.

Now onto the great stuff!

Topshop Scallop Hem Miniskirt $45

DSC_1025DSC_1039You guys know from this post that I’ve been coveting scalloped hemmed skirts so I was anxious to get this on. I love it. Originally I wanted something I could wear to work but this is too short for that. I’ll find other ways to wear it though, I’m keeping!

Topshop Monochrome Jacquard Faux Wrap Skirt $64

So I think we can all agree this skirt is awesome. It’s definitely a step out of my typical style for sure but I love the fringe and the asymmetry. In an effort to exhibit some self control, I recognized that I didn’t need two skirts, so I chose the scalloped hem. Also, this one was really tight on me but I worried going up a size would make it too loose. The material was so thick and structured that if it were loose it would have been like wearing cardboard – kind of awkward.

Madewell ‘Fleet’ Jacket $118 and Amour Vert ‘Francoise’ Nautical Long Sleeve Top $88

I already have very similar pieces in my closet so I sent both of these back but they are both great. They jacket is amazing. The price is high, but like it’s brand name, it is made soo well. I loved it. My own is just a crappy target version. The striped shirt I loved too. If you are in the market for a navy striped top, this is it. So soft and comfy. And very flattering.

MICHAEL Michael Kors Snap Front Belted Trench Coat $129.90

This was a great price for this Michael Kors jacket. It had all the bells and whistles, too much for me. This is sometimes how I feel about his stuff. Too many buttons and details. I didn’t like the belt, and it wrapped the entire way around my waist, which I thought was weird and didn’t look great. I didn’t dislike this jacket, I just didn’t like it enough to spend $129.90 on it.

Charles Henry Floral Jacquard Crepe Fit & Flare Dress $84

I thought this might be pretty for Easter or work, but it’s too short. It was comfortable though. I have two dresses in similar prints. I didn’t keep it.

Cupcakes and Cashmere ‘Sunset Lace’ Off the Shoulder Top $105

This is the most perfect off the shoulder top I’ve ever seen! It is so gorgeous! It’s very soft and so comfortable. I’ll be wearing this all summer!

Trunk Club for Women Review: Spring 2016 II |www.pearlsandsportsbras.com

This trunk was progress! My stylist and I are getting there. My goal isn’t to keep an entire trunk because I already have an established closet but I want to come away with a few great pieces and I think I’m getting that out of this service. My best advice for those that are unhappy with their first shipment is to be patient. Give your stylist a TON of feedback before and after a trunk so they can send you what you want.

  1. The scalloped hem skirt is really pretty. I really liked your entire trunk. You are making me want to get a trunk soon.

  2. No luck with trunk club. Maybe, I’m doing something wrong or maybe I just need a different stylist. Stitchfix has always gotten my feedback and Pinterest board but Trunk Club just issues getting it right. Then I see ones like yours and I have hope. Maybe, I will try again.
