For my blog’s 1st birthday I thought it would be fun to do a little Q&A so that you guys had an opportunity to get to know a little more about about me and what goes on around this joint! Let’s get started!
1. What made you decide to start blogging?
I started thinking about it when I was building my kitchen island. I was taking tons of photos along the way but really had no means other than Facebook to detail how I made the island and thought a blog would be a great forum to post all of my DIY projects. Around that same time I was getting a lot of texts and messages asking for advice and guidance regarding dieting recipes, health, and fitness and knew that could also be part of the blog as well. Fashion and style has evolved and taken on a bigger role in the blog over the last year and I like the direction it’s going!
2. How did you come up with the name for your blog?
This took me a really long time! I knew the “sports bra” part was going to somehow be involved but I had a really tough time coming up with the other half. And then one day, at work, I was all dressed up but had to change into scrubs quickly and go to the OR for a case that took hours. There’s nothing unusual about this for me, but when I finished, I snapped this photo for Instagram and captioned it “pearls and scrubs”:
That’s my favorite necklace and after looking a the photo the idea of “life in pearls and a sports bra” came to me, I thought it was perfectly representative of my life.
3. What is your most popular blog post?
My DIY Slow Cooker Dog Food is surprisingly (to me) the most popular post. On a daily basis, it consistently gets more views and pins than any other post.
4. Which types of posts are the most popular?
Fashion and style posts seem to be the most liked and viewed overall. My favorite fashion posts to put together are the Stitch Fix posts. I enjoy doing the weekly “What I’m Wearing Wednesday” which seem to be liked within the WordPress community and I personally enjoy those because they encourage me to use my wardrobe! The collage posts (ex: Fall Essentials, Winter Wardrobe Essentials, Winter Coats and Outerwear) are fun to make (but time consuming) and not as popular.
5. What are your favorite types of posts to create?
I most enjoy putting together do-it-yourself, fitness, and Stitch Fix posts.
6. What types of posts do you wish you did more of?
I definitely mean to do more fitness/exercise posts. Because of some health issues I haven’t been able to try anything new or too intense in the last 6-8 months so I haven’t had much to post about. I’ve been exercising, 3-5 times a week but I’ve had to take it easy, and aside from reviewing T25 GAMMA, none of it I have felt has been worth writing about. Most recently I’ve been doing the “lean” schedule on P90x3 and may review that at the end.
I would also like to do more recipes but with school (finished in 2 weeks woo!) and work, I don’t get home before dark and taking food pics in the dark is less than ideal. When I do plan on a food post, I have to save it for a weekend and cook it at an usual hour (middle of the day). If you guys gave me specific food requests I’d be more likely to cook.
7. What’s coming in the next year?
I’m most excited about a new camera! As of now, all photos are taken with my Iphone but I’m investing in a real one, so I plan to spruce this site up a little with better photos.
I’ll be done with my Master’s too, so more time for blogging? Yes! This blog is still so new and I’m still developing ideas for where it’s going. I hope to be able to get into a more streamlined blogging schedule. There will continue to be a little bit of everything that I love: fashion, beauty, health, fitness, home, and DIY. I can really make this a fun place to be with your help, feel free to message or email me with questions or requests!
